Dozens killed as blast rocks Nigeria medical school

Dozens of people were killed on
Monday in a bomb blast in a medical
school in Nigeria’s northwestern state of
Kano, officials said.
State police spokesperson Musa Majiya
confirmed the incident, but said the
official casualty figure could not been
given immediately due to the ongoing
rescue operation, Xinhua reported.
However, more than a dozen bodies were
brought out following the incident at the
Kano State School of Hygiene, a
specialised medical institution located in
the city’s central business district.
Last week, 12 people were killed in an
attack by suspected Boko Haram gunmen
in Borno state.
Although no group claimed responsibility
for the bomb attack, residents of the
northwestern state blamed it on Boko
Haram, an outlawed sect which had
claimed responsibility for thousands of
killings and kidnappings in Nigeria since
2009.
